Just a few weeks ago, my eight-year-old daughter sat for the NAPLAN Test. I couldn’t believe that my child is no longer a kid. It started me thinking about my own school days and how much things have changed since those days. The goal of this post is to share with you some tips for tackling the Naplan test.
What is The NAPLAN test?
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy NAPLAN test is a standardized test that was introduced in 2008 and intended to provide a national baseline for measuring the performance of Australian students. The test is administered to all students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 across Australia and is designed to assess literacy and numeracy skills.
It is a standardized test that measures how students are progressing in the four key learning areas: reading, writing, grammar and punctuation, numeracy. It is designed to measure how well students have grasped the Australian Curriculum.
The purpose of the test is to provide a national benchmark of student performance, which can then be used to compare student performance across different states and territories. The results are used by schools and governments to help teachers improve instruction, parents make decisions about which school their child should attend, and the public understand how well their children are performing in school.
What will be tested?
The NAPLAN literacy tests are based on content in the English learning area, and the numeracy tests based on Mathematics area.
In the reading, numeracy and conventions of language tests, questions may be multiple choice or drag and drop, or require a short-written response. In the writing test, students are expected to write a continuous text.
Who and when it Organized?
NAPLAN tests are organized by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority.
The first NAPLAN test is held in May of each year, and it is a national assessment that tests, It is held at different times in different states so that students are not disadvantaged.
The second NAPLAN test is held in October of each year, and it assesses students’ science skills.
